The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a non-profit, wildlife habitat conservation organization, seeks a mission-driven individual with strong interpersonal skills to join our team as a part-time Visitor Center Coordinator. This position offers varying hours (sometimes one day a week), and the employee will be required to work weekends and possibly evenings. Job Summary:
The Visitor Center Coordinator supports the daily operations of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF) Elk Country Visitor Center (VC) by providing exceptional customer service, engaging visitors in RMEF’s mission, and assisting with retail operations. This role focuses on creating a welcoming atmosphere, promoting RMEF’s conservation efforts, and ensuring an attractive and organized retail environment.
This is a part-time position where hours may vary from week to week. Weekend work is required.
Essential Functions:
- Welcome visitors, answer inquiries, process retail sales, and educate guests about RMEF’s mission and conservation efforts.
- Stay informed and educated about RMEF issues.
- Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and forward calls or messages as needed.
- Be proficient with membership database, address change and member search procedures.
- Solicit new and renewing members while promoting RMEF’s mission.
- Assist in maintaining an inviting and professional retail environment by restocking, folding, and arranging merchandise, as well as performing light cleaning tasks as needed.
- Assist Visitor Center staff on optimizing product placement to enhance sales and visitor engagement.
- Learn and operate the RMEF point-of-sale system to facilitate transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Assist with Kid’s Events, including preparation for and working the day of the event.
- Assist with the planning and coordination of special events in the VC and local area.
- Assist with the receiving, tagging, folding and display of merchandise.
- Execute daily, monthly, and annual inventory counts.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school education or equivalent, or a combination of three years of education and work experience preferred. Retail experience preferred.

- Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and be attentive and responsive to customers.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism in all forms of communication and behavior.
- Ability to discuss and explain RMEF’s mission, mission priorities and fundraising programs.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must have the ability to communicate with varied audiences.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and ability to effectively use these programs. Ability to understand and use CRM and relational database systems.
- Be willing to work in a team atmosphere and be able to effectively work independently.
- Must maintain a positive and professional approach to work.
- Must be efficient in multi-tasking and prioritizing.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail are essential. Ability to follow through on projects to completion with accuracy.
Physical Demands:
The employee must sit or stand for long periods of time; use a computer terminal; reach forward and to the side; bend from both standing and sitting position; and lift items weighing various amounts up to 40 pounds, including some heavy lifting. Weekend work is required. Some late evenings may be required.
