The Planer Supervisor will oversee daily operations of the planer mill. This position requires a hands-on leader with a strong background in lumber grading, planer setup, and team supervision. The ideal candidate will be a Certified Lumber Grader with at least 5 years of relevant experience in sawmill or lumber manufacturing environments.

Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Supervise and coordinate planer mill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality lumber production
  • On occasions assist with set up, adjustment, and maintenance of planer equipment
  • Monitor lumber grading, moisture content, and finished product quality
  • Ensure proper operation of all machinery and conduct troubleshooting
  • Lead, train, and support planer mill staff, including graders, forklift operators, package line workers and occasionally maintenance personnel
  • Work closely with maintenance, quality control, and production teams to meet production goals, minimize downtime and maintain safety standards
  • Ensure accurate completion of production and quality reports


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a planer mill or sawmill production environment
  • Certified Lumber Grader – WWPA or applicable regional certification required
  • Proven experience in planer setup, adjustment, and maintenance
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with workplace safety standards (OSHA, lockout/tagout procedures, etc.)
  • Basic computer proficiency for reporting and communication (MS Office Preferred)
  • Experience with implementation of capital project startups
  • Mechanical aptitude or background in industrial maintenance
