AWARE is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Development & Marketing to lead our fundraising and marketing initiatives. As a senior leadership role, this position will be instrumental in shaping AWARE’s future, driving strategic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability for our mission-driven work. 

The Director will be responsible for creating and executing a comprehensive development and marketing strategy, with a focus on donor cultivation, major gifts, events, grant management, brand awareness, and digital engagement. Additionally, this position will provide leadership and supervision to the development and marketing staff, ensuring alignment with AWARE’s strategic goals and fostering a collaborative, results-driven team. 

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, and communications, along with strong leadership skills to inspire staff, board members, and volunteers. 


Essential Job Functions:

Fundraising & Development:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and grants. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors. 
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors. 
  • Oversee the research, writing, and management of grant proposals and reporting. 
  • Plan and execute fundraising campaigns and special events, including employee giving initiatives. 
  • Ensure AWARE is a responsible steward of donated funds by maintaining transparency, adhering to ethical fundraising practices, and ensuring contributions are used effectively to support the organization's mission. 
  • Oversee gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and CRM management, ensuring efficient data entry, tracking, and reporting systems. While not necessarily handling these tasks directly, ensure they are executed accurately and effectively. 
  • Work with Finance staff to reconcile development and financial reports monthly, maintaining data integrity and accuracy. 
  • Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to secure financial support for AWARE’s programs. 

 

Marketing & Communications:

  • Provide strategic oversight for the development and execution of AWARE’s marketing and communications strategy, ensuring efforts enhance brand awareness, advocacy and engagement. 
  • Supervise and support the Marketing Manager, who is responsible for the creation and execution of digital and print content, including newsletters, social media, press releases, and marketing collateral. 
  • Ensure brand integrity by guiding the Marketing Manager in maintaining consistent messaging, visual identity, and tone across all communications, aligning with AWARE’s mission and values. 
  • Oversee public relations efforts and media engagement, supporting the Marketing Manager in managing relationships with media outlets. 
  • Analyze marketing and fundraising data in collaboration with the Marketing Manager to track effectiveness and inform strategy. 

 

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Serve as a key member of AWARE’s senior leadership team, contributing to strategic decision-making and organizational growth. 
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and professional development opportunities to development and marketing staff. 
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture focused on results and innovation. 
  • Ensure staff are equipped with the tools and resources necessary to meet organizational goals. 
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth opportunities for team members. 
  • Work closely with program directors to align fundraising and marketing efforts with organizational needs. 
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to enhance fundraising and donor engagement efforts.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated success in nonprofit fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant management. 
  • Experience developing and executing marketing and communications strategies. 
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and relationship-building skills. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including staff, board members, donors, and community partners. 
  • Proficiency in donor management and marketing platforms (CRM, social media, website management). 
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. 

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in fundraising, marketing, or nonprofit management, preferably in the human services or nonprofit sector. 
  • Proven track record in securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships. 
  • Experience supervising and leading a team.
