Essential Functions and Duties:

Lead by example to continuously improve

  • Spares inventory and organization
Problem-solving and Critical thinking
  • Implementation and frequent review of Lockout/Tagout policies
  • Interact with Maintenance supervisor and personnel for preventative and predictive maintenance on a regular basis.
  • Plan and execute annual boiler shut down maintenance.  Including all systems of the boiler/dry kilns
  • Analyze uptime/downtime on a regular basis to strive for consistency and efficiency
  • Plan and execute daily, weekly, monthly production schedules and communicate with Dry End Manager, Sales Manager, Plant Manager as needed.
  • Provide suggestions that aid in continuous improvement to safety, facilities, personnel, and our products.
  • Work closely with Dry End Manager, Maintenance Supervisor, and all vendors to ensure equipment and resources are in peak condition.
  • Interact with and utilize various vendors and suppliers that TRL has established as well as being open minded to new vendors, ideas, or manufacturers.
  • Must be open to process advancement and able and willing to be a key driving force in the successful startup of new equipment ideas and products.
  • Maintain boiler and kiln consumables and supplies to ensure consistent and efficient operation.
Lumber Review and Inspections
  • Supervise all boiler and kiln operations and personnel to ensure the best possible outcome for drying and conditioning lumber. 
  • Report to Dry End Manager routinely and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Work with Sawmill Supervisor on any and all green lumber stacking issues and evaluate any possible improvements to the process
  • Work closely with the Dry End Manger to ensure moisture content, kiln charts, all relevant product specifications are met.  This will include prong testing.
  • Ensure the clean operation of facility boiler, including; fuel mix, firing rate, EFB performance, and chemical testing.
  • Oversee the proper loading of lumber in all dry kilns to ensure success
  • Ensure that All carts and kiln components are in operational condition and well maintained.  Work weekly with maintenance supervisor.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (preferably with medium-pressure boiler operations)
  • MT Class 2 Boiler Operator License or ability to obtain it
  • Physically able to work in diverse conditions, lift up to 50 lbs. Work in all weather conditions common to western Montana
  • Proficiency with industrial controls, mechanical equipment, and computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to pass a drug test, background checks and all other work history related topics used to screen candidates, including education verification, driving history, personal references etc.


Preferred Experience:

  • Working experience drying Northwest softwood species of all kinds. Including 5/4 Ponderosa Pine, White Wood commons, Fir and Larch 4/4 and 8/4 random lengths.
  • 2+ years in medium-pressure boiler and dry kiln operations
